How to get tax return from freelancing and part time jobs in Korea

As we most of those who are full employees in Korea, they already know about the tax return policy which should be reported each end of January, called 연말정산. This is usually made through the home tax 국세청 site, where you need to download the pdf with the tax report based on your consumption and submitted to your accounting office from your company. These pdf files are available to download only during a certain period during the end of January beginning of February. This is an easy process, as usual, the accountant of each company will announce to the workers when they have to submit these papers.

But in the case of those who either are freelancers or they did extra part-time from which earning 3.33% taxes was deducted, there is a different period when you should report the taxes called 소득금액. This tax report and recalculation of the income is reported each May and the report is checked by end of April on the same site, called home tax. You may submit an inquiry for the calculation report to be sent by post to your home. Through this, you can then submit the report in case you need to get or pay some money back.

Steps to follow for a tax return:

Log in to hometax page - my홈텍스 - check the section 연말정산/정려금/학지금-지급명세서 등/제출내역

Those who failed to report the taxes during this period can pay a third party to do the tax report for them and return the money. There are a couple of such service accounting platforms where you calculate your taxes for free and after you pay an amount, depending on how much money you need to get back to be able to get your money back. One example of such service is 삼쩜삼 which literally means 3.3 (the number of the tax deducted for freelancing and part-time jobs).
