Probably after you graduate a lot of you are planning to go back to your country. But what to do about your Korean diploma? A lot of countries require an apostille on the official documents to be recognized so one important step all foreign students should do after they graduate from a Korean university and plan to leave the country is to get an official apostille on their diploma. Below you will find the steps you should take in order to get to your apostille!
Due to the opening of the Office of Overseas Koreans, related tasks are relocated to civil affairs office.
From 2023.6.5. (Mon), the following Apostille (Consular Confirmation) and Overseas Emigration Report, etc. will be handled by the office located at the address below.

In order to receive Apostille confirmation for documents issued in Korea, the following documents are required.
Apostille application (download the attached file on the official website at the bottom of the page)
‘Notarized documents’, (‘notarized documents’, and private documents that require Apostille confirmation must be ‘notarized’ at a notary office prior to Apostille confirmation)
If the application is made by an agent/other person, the ID of the agent
Electronic revenue stamp (KRW 1,000 per case)
In-person visit
If you are still in Korea and want to get your diploma apostille, there is only one step you should follow!
1. Visit the official MOFA site and download the application form (Website).
2. Prepare the application form, a copy of your id card, and the document you need to get an apostille on
3. Visit the official civil service office at the address above!
4. Go to the 3rd floor (room 304) to get your diploma translated and an official notarized copy
Price for notarization: 26,000 won
Price for translation: 30,000
5. Go to the 15th floor of the same building, get a waiting number, and wait to get the call to apply
Extra notes:
You may go to the center before 1PM as all documents received after 2PM will be released the next day.
Hours: Mon-Fri 09:00-18:00 (excluding holidays)
Issuance time
09:00-14:30 - issuance at least 30 minutes after receiving (according to the number of documents received and the number of people on the waiting list, delivery time will be informed at the time of receiving the papers)
(However, at the time of reception from 11:30-13:00, batch issuance after 13:30)
If received after 14:30, delivered after 09:30 the next day.
REMEMBER! For your own country apostille call the competent administration, but keep in mind BETTER COME WITH THE DIPLOMA APOSTILLED ALREADY, because it may take time and a lot of money to send it back and forth to get the apostille while in Korea. Usually, the apostille is only taken in your country or district and most embassies don't deal with this.
