Festivals and Events for Christmas in Korea 2023

Christmas is a very important and beautiful holiday for most of us. Some people celebrate it because it's in their culture and some others because of the peaceful and lovely feeling it gives you.
Either if you are a Korean or a foreigner, there are many activities and events to which you go and feel the warmth of the winter holidays. Here is a list of festivals, events, and shopping markets to go to for this winter holiday:
1. E-World Illumination
When: 19.11- 31.12
Where: E-world

Location: 대구광역시 달서구 두류공원로 200
Called E-World Starlight Festival takes place at E-World and 83 Tower. People can enjoy the 15m Miracle Christmas Tree, the illuminated road, the garden with 100.000 LED roses, and Christmas activities and performances. This is a perfect opportunity to take amazing photos at the 10 million lights festival.

2. Seoul Lantern Festival
When: 19.12 - 31.12 [6PM-10PM]
Where: Gwangwhamun Square
Fee: Free
Location: 서울특별시 종로구 세종대로 172 5호선 광화문역
An annual event, Seoul Lantern Festival is one of the most popular and expected around wintertime in Seoul. People can admire the big paper lanterns and LED statues alongside Cheonggyecheon Stream. Compared to last year's edition this year will take place at Gwanghwamun Square.
Special activities will be held on the night of New Year's Eve and a countdown.
Time: 6PM - 11:59PM (11:59 start the countdown for the New Year)
3. Holiday Market Itaewon
When: 17.12 [1PM - 6PM]
Where: Lit Lounge Itaewon

Location: 이태원동 34-65
A Christmas vibe event held by Handmade Market Korea. People can buy handmade gifts and products offered by local entrepreneurs at their booths. Hot wine and other drinks, special songs and activities, and all the winter type of fun.
A raffle with prizes and other events can be enjoyed as well.

4. Siheung Premium Outlet Christmas Market
When: 01.12 - 15.01.2023
Where: Siheung Premium Outlet

Location: 경기도 시흥시 서해안로 699 시흥 프리미엄 아울렛
The Siheung Premium Outlet turns into a Christmas Market during this period of time. With beautiful lights to match the holiday vibe, food booths, different types of drinks and sweets, activities and performances, gift shops, etc. Most people go to this market to take beautiful photos with the lights and decorations and enjoy the delicious food and treats.
This market is especially perfect to go to if you have kids because it provides shops and activities for both adults and children. You will find many branded shops as well as Christmas-themed booths, while for kids there is a floor with shops and playgrounds. Perfect attractions for children are the Santa people walking around the market and the Christmas tree.
5. Myeongdong shopping district
When: During the winter holidays
Where: Myeongdong Shopping District

Location: 서울특별시 중구 명동길 (명동1가)
Myeongdong is a very popular area for tourists and not only for the variety of shopping places, especially the brand ones. However, once winter comes to Korea Myeongdong turns into a beautiful Christmas place.
The Lotte department store becomes a magical place with a "Christmas Dream Moments" theme having between many other decorations a Christmas castle with sleigh rides.
Sinsegae department store also is decorated with Christmas lights and not only with a theme called "Magical Winter Fantasy". You can take awesome photos from distance and enjoy the lights show.
This area will offer people many booths with Korean food and snacks but also drinks and gift shop booths. We would advise you to go there during the weekday for a less crowdy experience.
6. Lotte World Miracle Winter: Lights Up

The Lotte World Adventure can be a great place to go to this year around the Christmas holiday. Even if winter can get pretty cold in Seoul, Lotte World prepared an indoor theme park with a Christmas magical castle and rollercoaster. It also has a great ice ring for skating (every year in fact).
This year the Lotte World will also have this Miracle Winter: Lights Up theme in Busan as well.
In both locations, you can enjoy the Christmas lights and decorations in trees and all the festive activities and events.
7. Starfield Coex Mall - Byeol Madang Library

Location: 서울특별시 강남구 영동대로 513
The Byeol Madang library itself is a very well know attraction for both locals and tourists. If you love books and Christmas, this is the PERFECT occasion to enjoy both of them while visiting Seoul, Korea. Situated in the popular Gangnam, the library and mall have Christmas lights, decorations, and a beautiful big Christmas tree in the middle of the area.
8. Yeongdeungpo Times Square

The Lotte World Mall will hold a beautiful Christmas Market in 2022 with the theme of "Christmas Dream Moments". You can walk and enjoy the charming lights and Christmas theme decorations while buying snacks and drink specially made for this holiday.

9. Hyundai Seoul Sounds Forest
When: During the winter holidays
Where: The Hyundai Seoul
Fee: Free
Location: 서울특별시 영등포구 여의대로 108
Another popular shopping mall in Seoul, Korea many people choose to go here during this holiday period. The mall already has Christmas trees, lights, and decorations up. The small forest-like zone filled with Christmas-themed songs is perfect to enjoy while walking and to take beautiful photos.
10. Herb Island Light Festival
When: 01.01- 31.12
Where: Pocheon Herb Island
Fee: Adults ₩9000 Kids: ₩7000
Location: 경기도 포천시 신북면 청신로947번길 35
An all-year-long festival where people can enjoy the aromatic herb from January to October, and from November the winter lights. It creates a romantic atmosphere while offering great photo zones, Santa Village with lights, and others.
