Myeongdong, located in the center of Seoul, is regaining its pre-Covid prominence as the city's trendiest shopping area and tourism hub.
In the midst of the holiday lights and decorations, the once-empty streets of Myeongdong are now packed with locals and tourists who are nearly standing shoulder to shoulder.
Food truck steam and scents attract chilly visitors, and over the din of the crowd, the ring of Salvation Army bells pierces the chill in the air.
The Shinsegae Department Store in Myeongdong announced this year that it has installed 3.5 million LED chips on the store's outside walls.
The Lotte Department Store in Myeongdong has also participated in the holiday cheer this year by decorating a 100-meter-long wall with media art with the theme "Christmas Dream Moments" and adding its own seasonal lighting. From the 15th of December 2022, the displayed decorations represent everyone's ideal traditional Christmas sense. The Christmas Dream Moments will be on display through January 29th, 2023. You will have plenty of time to visit.
To protect the safety of everyone visiting the area, the two department shops have hired about 50 security officers and put-up barriers.
The "Christmas Dream Moments" theme is featured in 3-story-high lights and tree decorations at Lotte Department Store Main Branch. A top-to-bottom media façade of the Young Plaza skyscraper plays stop-motion animation with adorable characters. Replicas of the stop motion video scenes can be seen in the first floor's window displays.
A charming Christmas market with a variety of holiday decorations is located outside the Lotte World shopping center. Small cottages decorated for Christmas can be seen in the neighborhood, as these tables are selling festive sweets and decorations. You can take a leisurely tour while letting the holiday celebrations fill your eyes, or you can start your Christmas shopping right immediately. It's a wonderful location for a date or for hanging out with friends or family.
Inside the mall, the holiday spirit is still present. Visitors are greeted at the main entrance by luxurious red drapes. The Concierge Desk has a Christmas-themed photo area constructed inside, and the hallway that connects the basement floor to the subway station has a Christmas Garden with an upside-down tree. The enormous Christmas tree by Eulji-ro 1(il)-ga Station's Exit 7 is another well-liked location for pictures. Merry-go-rounds, maze gardens, and wish trees are additional activities associated with the theme.
